We have several options for treating blood vessels – your dermal clinician will decide in your consultation which will be the safest and produce the best results. Lasers work very precisely; they are designed to seek out and target specific things in the skin, leaving everything else untouched.
- For lighter skin tones, our team can set the light energy from the laser to penetrate the blood vessel. The energy generates heat, coagulating the blood within the vein, causing it to collapse and sealing it closed. This process causes inflammation in the skin, so while it is a very safe and effective option for some skin colours, it isn’t for all.
- For darker skin tones, people that have melasma, or those with a history of post-inflammatory pigmentation we have a laser that we can set to target the haemoglobin in the skin, as haemoglobin is red it makes this laser perfect for treating ‘red’ skin considerations. When treating blood vessels this laser does not directly destroy the vessels but normalises them, this makes it a safer option as inflammation is minimised. Any cells surrounding the abnormal blood vessels are also returned to a healthy state.

WHAT TO EXPECT?
One of our experienced dermal clinicians will begin by cleansing your skin based on your individual skin profile.
Lasers produce a lot of heat, so this treatment is mildly uncomfortable, with most people describing a prickling sensation and some heat but rest assured the sensation does pass quickly. We will check in with you to make sure it’s tolerable for you and provide you with ice to cool the area as soon as possible.
To finish, your skin will be topped with a non-irritating sun protection product – an absolute must for now and into the future.
This treatment is not what we would consider a lunchtime treatment, meaning you won’t look exactly the same as when you walked in, your skin may feel sensitive, you will be red, and you might experience some swelling.
A scab may form on the treatment area where the vessel was. Do not pick or scratch the area, it’s important for it to heal naturally.
